All-on-6 Dental Implants in Costa Rica: What to Expect, Benefits, Cost, and Procedure
Losing most or all of your teeth can affect how you eat, speak, and feel about your appearance. Removable dentures may restore part of that function, but some patients want a fixed solution that feels more stable in everyday life.
All-on-6 dental implants replace a complete upper or lower arch with a fixed restoration supported by six dental implants. For the right patient, this approach can restore chewing function, improve stability, and create a natural-looking smile without placing an individual implant for every missing tooth. However, six implants are not automatically better than four, five, or eight. The correct number depends on your bone, anatomy, bite, and prosthetic design. At Esthetic Dent, every full-arch case begins with specialist evaluation and 3D planning to determine which All-on-X option is appropriate for that individual patient.

Additional implants can offer different options for distributing support, but six implants are not necessary or possible in every case. Four well-positioned implants may provide an appropriate foundation for one patient, while another may benefit from five, six, or more. The decision should not be based on choosing the largest number. It should be based on a complete diagnosis and a treatment plan designed by the surgical and restorative team.
Benefits of All-on-6 Dental Implants
A fixed full-arch restoration
The restoration is secured to the implants and does not move like a conventional removable denture. This can improve comfort and confidence during daily activities.
Improved chewing stability
Implant support can provide greater stability than a tissue-supported removable denture. Patients must still follow dietary instructions during healing and protect the final restoration from excessive forces.
A smile designed for the individual patient
The size, shape, position, and color of the teeth are planned to complement the patient's face, smile goals, and functional needs.
Support for the jawbone
Dental implants transfer functional forces to the surrounding bone. Although implants do not stop every natural change in the jaw, they help provide stimulation in the areas where they are placed.
No individual implant for every missing tooth
One fixed restoration replaces a complete arch using a smaller number of implants than would be required to replace every tooth separately.
What Is the All-on-6 Procedure Like at Esthetic Dent?
Full-arch treatment is generally completed in stages and is commonly planned across two trips to Costa Rica. The exact schedule depends on the surgical plan, healing response, and final restoration.
1. Free initial case review
You can begin by completing the consultation form, contacting us on WhatsApp, calling our international number, or emailing our team. You do not need to have X-rays or confirmed travel dates to start speaking with a Dental Advisor. If you already have a panoramic X-ray, CBCT scan, photographs, or a treatment plan from another provider, you may share those records securely. Our team can use the available information to prepare a preliminary recommendation and written estimate.
2. In-person diagnosis and 3D planning
Once you arrive, the complete diagnostic consultation includes specialist examination, 3D dental imaging, X-rays, and the records required to finalize your plan. The consultation is valued at $250 and is included in Esthetic Dent dental packages. The surgical and restorative teams evaluate bone, gum health, bite, available space, smile design, and the condition of any remaining teeth. Digital planning helps determine whether four, five, six, or more implants should support the restoration.
3. Extractions and implant placement
Teeth that cannot be preserved are removed according to the treatment plan. The implants are then positioned in the planned locations. Local anesthesia is used. IV sedation with an anesthesiologist is also available when appropriate, but it must be coordinated in advance and is charged separately because it is not included in the dental package.
4. Temporary restoration
Temporary teeth are part of the treatment plan so the patient can have a functional and presentable smile during healing. The type and timing of the temporary restoration depend on implant stability and the clinical conditions found during surgery.
5. Healing and osseointegration
The implants need time to integrate with the jawbone before receiving the final restoration. At Esthetic Dent, this healing stage is commonly planned for approximately six months, although the specialist confirms the timeline for each patient. Our team follows up after the first trip to monitor recovery and remain available for questions while the patient prepares to return to Costa Rica.
6. Final full-arch restoration
During the restorative stage, digital records are used to design the final teeth. The restoration is evaluated for fit, bite, function, appearance, and cleanability before completion.Because Esthetic Dent has its own dental laboratory, the dentists and technicians can communicate directly throughout the design, production, fitting, and adjustment process.
How Many Days Do I Need to Stay in Costa Rica?
The total stay depends on the procedures planned for each trip. Dental implant placement requires approximately four business days. Restorative treatments involving one to five units require approximately five business days, and treatments involving six or more units require approximately nine business days. Arrival and departure days should be added separately. For an All-on-6 case, the first trip generally focuses on diagnosis, surgery, implant placement, and the temporary restoration. The second trip takes place after osseointegration and focuses on producing, testing, and delivering the final full-arch restoration. Before you purchase flights, your Dental Advisor will confirm the treatment schedule and recommended arrival and departure dates for both trips.Patients do not spend every day in the dental chair. Some days are reserved for healing, laboratory production, fittings, and adjustments.
How Much Do All-on-6 Dental Implants Cost in Costa Rica?
Esthetic Dent full-arch dental implant packages currently start at $10,480 for one arch, while full-mouth packages involving upper and lower arches start at $17,775.These are starting package prices and should not be interpreted as the final price of every All-on-6 case. The written estimate depends on:· The number of implants selected for each arch.· Whether extractions are required.· Whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is necessary.· The design and material of the temporary and final restorations.· The need for sedation or additional clinical procedures.· Whether one arch or both arches are being restored.Your preliminary estimate is prepared before travel based on the records available. The final treatment plan is confirmed after the in-person examination and 3D imaging. If a clinical finding requires a change, the specialist explains the reason and cost before proceeding.Patients can explore All-on-4, All-on-5, All-on-6, and All-on-8 options through our All-on-4 and More Costa Rica package. The appropriate option is determined clinically rather than selected only by price or implant number.
What Is Included in the Dental Package?
Package inclusions depend on the selected treatment and location. Esthetic Dent packages are designed to combine clinical treatment with the coordination an international patient needs before and during the trip.Your written proposal explains the included diagnostic consultation, surgical and restorative stages, temporary teeth, transportation, appointment coordination, and applicable travel benefits. Patients treated at the beach location may also have the domestic flight between San José and Cóbano coordinated as part of the applicable package.
Recovery and Eating After All-on-6 Surgery
Some swelling, tenderness, and temporary dietary limitations can be expected after implant surgery. The clinical team provides instructions based on the procedures completed.During early healing, patients are commonly instructed to eat soft foods and avoid placing excessive pressure on the temporary restoration. Good nutrition, medication use as prescribed, gentle oral hygiene, and avoiding smoking are important during recovery.Your specialist will explain:· How to clean the surgical area.· What foods to choose and avoid.· When to resume normal physical activity.· How to care for the temporary teeth.· Which symptoms are expected and which require contacting the clinic.
How Do You Clean All-on-6 Teeth?
A fixed full-arch restoration requires daily cleaning, but the technique is not identical to cleaning natural teeth. Patients must clean around the implants and underneath the restoration using the tools recommended by the dental team.Depending on the design, this may involve specialized floss, interdental brushes, or an oral irrigator. Professional maintenance appointments are also essential. The goal is to control plaque, protect the tissues around the implants, and identify changes before they become larger problems.
Potential Risks and Considerations
All-on-6 treatment involves oral surgery and is not free of risk. Possible complications can include infection, delayed healing, implant failure, temporary restoration damage, screw loosening, gum inflammation, or difficulty maintaining hygiene.Risk can be influenced by factors such as smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, certain medications, inadequate oral hygiene, severe grinding, and failure to attend follow-up care.Careful diagnosis, appropriate implant positioning, a well-designed restoration, and long-term maintenance all contribute to treatment success. Individual results and healing times vary.

Frequently Asked Questions About All-on-6 Dental Implants
Are All-on-6 dental implants painful?
The surgical area is numbed with local anesthesia. IV sedation with an anesthesiologist is available when appropriate, coordinated in advance, and charged separately from the dental package. Tenderness and swelling can occur afterward, but the clinical team provides postoperative instructions and prescribes medication when clinically indicated.
Will I receive temporary teeth?
Temporary teeth are planned as part of the full-arch treatment. Their design and timing depend on implant stability and the clinical findings at surgery. Your specialist explains the temporary phase before treatment begins.
Can I eat normally with All-on-6 implants?
Patients usually follow a soft-food protocol during early healing and while wearing the temporary restoration. After delivery of the final teeth, diet can generally become more varied, but patients should follow their specialist's instructions and avoid habits that could damage the restoration.
How long does the All-on-6 process take?
Treatment is commonly completed over two trips, separated by an osseointegration period of approximately six months. The exact timeline depends on healing, additional procedures, and the final treatment plan.
Do All-on-6 implants look natural?
The restoration is customized to the patient's facial features, smile, bite, and aesthetic goals. Digital design and direct collaboration with the in-house laboratory allow the team to evaluate tooth shape, size, color, and position before completion.
Is All-on-6 better than All-on-4?
Not automatically. Both approaches can provide a fixed full-arch restoration. The better option is the one that offers an appropriate implant distribution and prosthetic design for the patient's anatomy, bone, bite, and long-term needs.
Are All-on-6 implants better than removable dentures?
For patients who qualify and want a fixed solution, All-on-6 can offer greater stability than a conventional removable denture. However, surgery, maintenance, cost, anatomy, and medical history must all be considered before deciding which option is appropriate.
How long do All-on-6 dental implants last?
Dental implants and full-arch restorations are designed for long-term use, but no clinical treatment is maintenance-free. Longevity depends on healing, oral hygiene, bite forces, health, smoking, professional care, and compliance with follow-up recommendations.
